 Georgia’s  New Car Tax Law
The Cobb County Tax Commissioner’s Office reminds you that, starting March 1, 2013, all motor vehicles titled in Georgia are subject to a one-time Title Ad Valorem Tax Fee (TAVT) based on the fair market value, not purchase price. Any vehicle subject to TAVT is exempt from sales tax. Owners of motor vehicles purchased in Georgia between January 1, 2012, and February 28, 2013, may opt in between March 1 and December 31, 2013, as defined by law. Vehicles already on the annual ad valorem system that are not eligible to opt in remain on the annual ad valorem tax system.

Registration requirements remain the same for all vehicles regardless of whether they are on the TAVT or annual ad valorem tax system. Those requirements are annual decal renewal by your expiration date, a valid Georgia driver’s license or identification card, valid emission certificate, and mandatory Georgia liability insurance.
Lower Prescription Costs Available Through Free Program
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners is participating in a new prescription drug discount program known as the Coast2Coast Rx card that will allow all county residents – regardless of income, age, or health status – to save on the cost of their medications. Distributed free of charge to residents and at no cost to the county, the Rx card may be used at all pharmacy chains and most independent pharmacies and includes over 60,000 drugs in its formulary. The card also provides discounts on dental, vision, veterinary and hearing services, plus lab and imaging tests, and diabetes supplies and equipment for all family members. The Coast2Coast Rx card is available at most participating pharmacies, governmental offices, libraries and county health facilities. Residents can also print the card, view the nearest participating locations, and get more information at www.coast2coastrx.com.
May your holidays be merry and bright – from your neighbors at the East Cobb Civic Association!
