Chickens and Livestock
The Cobb County Planning Commission has submitted proposals to change
the current zoning ordinance regarding chicken and other livestock (goats, pigs,
etc) in backyards. The current zoning ordinance prohibits chickens (and other
livestock) on lots less than 2 acres. The changes under
consideration would allow chicken coops, pigs, goats, and other livestock on
residential property. The 2 acre
requirement would be eliminated and the county commissioners are in the process
of finalizing how they will regulate/restrict the number of chickens and other
livestock on each residential property.
The
final vote by the Cobb County Commissioners is scheduled for February 26, 2013
This matter has been covered in the news; here is a link to an article that was published last year: http://northeastcobb.patch.com/articles/backyard-chickens-cluckin-good-idea

We have a section in our subdivision covenants that addresses
animals. We have discussed this matter previously with our HOA attorneys and
are waiting to hear back from them on any actions we might need to
take.
