Coyotes
Recently we have experienced an increase in the appearance of coyotes in Camden Place. Numerous sightings of coyotes have been in several neighborhoods in the Little Willeo/Lower Roswell area as well. As you may already know, coyotes, foxes and bears are as much a part of the Georgia environment as squirrels and chipmunks. Understandably, the higher food chain wildlife can be unnerving, especially when they are close. The Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources and Cobb County Animal Control will not remove them. Homeowners can seek help from private animal trappers if they are concerned about these animals on their property at their own expense. Several homeowners have already done so. At this time, the common areas of Camden Place, for which the HOA has responsiblity, have not been affected by these animals. Below are several websites with valuable information about these animals and help homeowners determine what they can do on their own property, please take the time to visit them. Here is a list of suggestions from one of the websites.
What To Do/Recommendations:
Preventive measures and passive management are the best ways to avoid coyote conflict.
Never feed coyotes and always prevent their access to food around your home.
Do not leave pet food outside.
Make trash cans inaccessible and secure them with tight lids.
Control small mammals from feeding in and around bird feeders, which can attract coyotes.
Clean and store grills when not in use.
Properly dispose of dead animals, including any nearby roadkill.
Do not allow pets to roam freely and take them indoors at night.
If pets must be kept outside, consider installing fencing and motion-activated lights to discourage predators.
If you see coyotes near your home and feel uneasy about their presence, make loud noises, spray them with a hose, and generally make them feel unwelcome.
