ECCA March Meeting

Cooper, State Representative, District 43. Representative Cooper will recap the
activities and legislation of the 2013 session of the Georgia General Assembly.
The community is invited to attend to hear Representative Cooper’s remarks. A
general membership meeting for ECCA members will follow the program.
Chairman Lee Holds Town Hall Meeting

Cobb County Commission Chairman
Tim Lee will hold a town hall meeting on Tuesday, March 19, at 7:00 p.m. at the Smyrna Community Center, 200
Village Green Circle, Smyrna. This meeting was scheduled as a substitute for
the Chairman’s February town hall, which was cancelled due to illness.
Education SPLOST Vote This Month
Tuesday, March 19, Polls Open 7:00 a.m., close 7:00 p.m.
The special election for the education Special Purpose Local Option Sales
Tax (SPLOST) referendum is March 19. Advance, in-person voting for the referendum is
currently open at the main Cobb elections office on Whitlock Avenue and continues
there through March 15. Several “satellite” advance voting locations will be
open for in-person voting March 11 – 15.

Join the Planning Department for an open house featuring the new Johnson Ferry Design Guidelines. Cobb County staff will be there to answer questions and take input on this next step in the Johnson Ferry Urban Design Plan. To view the plan click Johnson Ferry Design Guidelines.
April 1 is the deadline for those wishing to apply for a Homestead Exemption on their property taxes to take effect this year. Applications are accepted year-round. However, those received after April 1 will be processed but any exemptions allowed will take effect the following year. For details on what is required to get an application in place, go to the Property Tax Forms page of the Cobb County Tax Commissioner’s website.
Parks and Recreation Camps Registration
Registration opens in March for many of the summer camp sponsored by the Cobb Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. Camps are offered in the areas of arts, recreation, and therapy and some fill-up quickly. Camp dates and registration information can be obtained from the summer camps page of the Parks and Recreation website. Information is also available on that page for the upcoming Summer Camp Expo, scheduled for May 2 at the Cobb Civic Center.
Lower Roswell Road: This project consists of the addition of sidewalks, trail, and bike lanes along a 2.9 mile portion of Lower Roswell Road, from Davidson Road to Timber Ridge Road. A roundabout is included at the end of the project, where Lower Roswell Road intersects with Willeo Road and Timber Ridge Road. Work on this project will continue for most of this year.
I-285 Resurfacing: Georgia DOT crews are resurfacing 10 miles of I-285 between Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County and Ashford Dunwoody Road in DeKalb County. Most work will take place nights and weekends. The project is scheduled to complete in August 2013. Those traveling through this area should expect delays, especially when construction worker are present.
Paper Mill Road Bridge Replacement: Cobb DOT officials report that Paper Mill Road will close to through traffic starting the day after school closes for the 2012-2013 school year, to accommodate the installation of a new bridge across Sope Creek. This project is expected to take approximately five months to complete. Start planning now.
A new law regarding how motor vehicles are taxed in Georgia went into effect on March 1. This new process will eventually affect every motor vehicle owner in the state.
